School Life during Covid-19 - How to take part

We are asking lots of young people from your school if they would like to take part in ‘School Life during Covid-19’ research study. Talk to your family and friends and think about whether you would like to take part.

The following video explains what we are asking you to do.

Please note: Now open to all year groups (7-13).

What is this study trying to find out?

We want to know what school life is like during Covid-19 and what young people think about having to do things to help stop the spread of Covid-19, for example washing hands and social distancing. We also want to find out if these changes to school life have influenced young people’s mental health and mood. We are doing this to help schools support young people at school.

Why have you asked me?

Your school is taking part in the study. We are inviting young people from your school to take part from Years 8, 10 or 12.

What do I have to do?

Dr Sarah Bell or Jane Williams, researchers from the University of Bristol, want to talk to young people about what school life is like. This can take place wherever you would like it to. It could be at school, over the phone or using Zoom.

The conversation will last about 45 minutes. You do not have to answer every question – it is fine to skip questions you don’t want to answer and you can stop, or take breaks, whenever you want to.

You will receive an Amazon £20 gift voucher to thank you for taking part.

Can I bring a friend or parent/carer?

Yes, you can be with one or two friends from your school (in your year group), or your parent/carer. You can also choose to do the interview by yourself.
